Hawai‘i has the highest per capita rate of homelessness in the United States.

How many of them are children?

Intent

The Friends of Youth Outreach (FOYO) is a core group of individuals who collaborate to help the homeless and at-risk youth on O‘ahu. Youth Outreach (YO!) operates in Waikiki under the auspices of Waikiki Health and Hale Kipa, YO!'s main source of funding since its inception in 1989.

Vision

The vision of FOYO is to create a licensed facility where these disenfranchised youth are able to sleep safely at night under professional supervision. In addition, they will continue to receive the services that are currently offered to them: skilled medical attention, hot nutritious meals, clean clothes, laundry facilities, hot showers, personal lockers, GED education, counseling, job training and employment assistance, and nurturing by qualified, professional staff.

Our goal is to create an endowment of five million dollars with which to achieve our purpose of guiding these young people toward a brighter future. Our homeless problem is a concern to residents and visitors alike, and FOYO believes that helping our street-identified at-risk youth will help the outcome for future generations on O‘ahu. YO! House can create new opportunities for these young people to become self-reliant adults through the programs and scholarships offered through YO!. Without YO!, these youth are at risk for becoming the next wave of homeless adults. With kokua from our community, FOYO will strive to break the cycle of homelessness on O‘ahu.
